On Pineapple Dating

This week, I was thinking about Valentine’s Day, one of the most commercial days of the year, and how annoying it can be for so many people who do not have love, dates, or relationships right now.

But I wanted to make it light-hearted and encouraging, so I have done my research on what is new on the dating scene.

A trend that originated in Spain is spreading to other European countries: pineapple dating.

If you are in the supermarket and put a pineapple upside down on its crown in your basket, it means you are single and available for dates. It is tough out there for single people, especially those who are not keen on online or app dating (can’t think of anything worse), which makes it difficult for many to meet other singles.

I have always been advocating to talk to people in real-life situations, but how do you know that the other person is single? Fear of rejection can often stop you from reaching out and starting a conversation.

Therefore, I think the idea of pineapple dating is simply genius. It became so popular that in one Spanish supermarket, they had to call the police as there were massive crowds of people waiting for dates 🙂

I was even willing to try and test this theory, being a writer.

I came across one fundamental problem in my local supermarket. The crowns on all pineapples were chopped off. Maybe UK supermarkets anticipated the popularity of this trend 🙂

With love, as always,
