What a fantastic weekend filled with things that I love – local market and live music. Southampton’s Music in the City event this year is an incredible celebration of music, boasting a diverse lineup of 350 acts in over 50 venues across the city. It’s a musical journey you wouldn’t want to miss.
I started with my favourite Carlton Place Market, a true community hub and always brilliantly organised by beautiful Emma, owner of the https://www.gaiahealthstore.co.uk/. It’s always heartwarming to see my long-time favourite traders like Flo’s Flea Market https://www.instagram.com/flos_vintage/. I’m already looking forward to Flo’s next event in October at the Design Chapel. These events are always a blast, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
Some of my newfound favourites were VB Distillery https://www.vbdistillery.net/ which offers an exquisite small-batch collection of vodka and gin. Not only do I love their products, but there is a beautiful storytelling, passion and pride in what this brand offers. I found my favourite triple-distilled vodka here, and I shall be coming back. HipPip Hooray https://hippiphooray.co.uk/about/ – Pippy’s jewellery is so funky, colourful and can brighten anyone’s day, not just an outfit. Her passion for what she does is very touching.
After successful shopping, I headed into the city for some live music. What a fantastic vibe and a mixture of all possible live music genres. I saw my favourite Southampton Salty Sea Dogs (Sea Shanties) in the Castle Vault. Their songs always touch me. I danced to the rhythm of XR Rhythms (Samba Rock & Drums) in Holyrood Church and I was genuinely amazed by the Woodfalls Band (Brass Band) in St. Michael’s Church.
It has been an enjoyable and inspirational day. How was your weekend? Did you attend any local events or discover any new favourite spots? I’d love to hear about your experiences and recommendations.
With love as always,
Yana De Lilac
