What an exciting week it was for all Depeche Mode fans with the release of DEPECHE MODE: M, a cinematic journey into the heart of Mexican culture’s relationship with death, framed by the iconic performances of Depeche Mode during their 2023 Memento Mori tour.
For the screening, I headed to Showlux Southampton, and what a moving experience it was. The film beautifully captured the profound, touching wisdom of Mexico, intertwined with live performances of Depeche Mode’s music. The visuals and the music were so powerful that they brought tears to my eyes, and I’m sure many of you felt the same way.
Depeche Mode is not just my favourite band; they are the epitome of style, touching hearts with their every move. But it is also that special camaraderie of the fans. DM fans are united by music, a sense of belonging and shared love.
The album’s themes were directly inspired by reflections on mortality, with Martin Gore stating that the tragic loss of Andy Fletcher reflected the album’s central message about the limited time we have on Earth. It’s a message that resonates deeply with me, and I’m sure with many of you as well.
I want to leave here a link to the closing song of the album, which always makes me cry.

I took this opportunity to talk about Depeche Mode and share the Walking In My Shoes video with you all, filmed in Bulgaria by my friend and a very talented photographer and videographer, Anastasia: https://www.instagram.com/photo_by_karpenko_?igsh=bXFtdHZzbXM1Y29v.
Shooting this video was a highlight of my trip to Bulgaria, a very special place for me, and I’m excited to share this part of my journey with you. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I loved making it, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
With Love As Always,
Yana De Lilac
