Cruising for Solo Travellers

In preparation for going on a cruise, I would like to answer a question I have been asked several times recently.

Are cruising holidays a good option for solo travellers? Absolutely!

There are various types of solo travellers – those actively looking to socialise and meet people, those who like to be on their own and those who like a mixture of both.

Cruises are a great choice for all.

I consider myself an extroverted introvert. I can talk to anyone anywhere, comfortable at any networking events, but on many occassions I just dont want to.  I love my own company, and I love following my own agenda.
So I connect with people mainly when I feel like it.

There are so many things to do daily onboard to satisfy any taste – music, dance classes, art lectures, cocktail making and much more.
Even at sea, no two days are the same. You can meet and talk with people easily everywhere.
For example, Cunard’s iconic afternoon tea ceremony with live music is such a popular event that they tend to put you at the table with other guests.

On most days, there are meet-up times for solo travellers. I have never made it to one of those.
Dining on a shared table with other cruise guests is also an option (as is eating alone if you prefer), and on port days you’ll be free to explore ashore independently, with other solo cruisers, or as part of an organised shore experience with a group of other guests.

For me the best place for socialising is an island bar with stools where people come and go before or after dinner. And after a couple of evenings, you get to know and meet with people you connect with.

The best places for me for my solo moments are library and spa. Cunard’s library at Queen Victoria is out of this world beautiful.

To summarise, cruise holidays is an excellent choice for any type of solo traveller. I met some amazing people, made friends and still staying in touch with (Nikki, I am sure we shall meet on another cruise soon), and equally I had some beautiful moments on my own.

I am super excited to go on my next cruise very soon. Watch this space!
