I got a taxi from Havant train station. The driver did not look very happy.
“To the island, please” (meaning Hayling Island, which is 15 minutes away), I said.
“To the Isle of Wight?” he said sarcastically with a straight face.
I told him that for somebody looking so grumpy, he has a great sense of humour. After that, we talked and laughed the whole journey.
Once again, I learnt a lesson – appearances can be misleading.
After a particularly stressful week, I found solace in a long weekend at Hayling Island. It was a gentle reminder that when you’re in sync with the Universe, the right experiences come to you at the right time.
Hayling Island, with its retro charm and unhurried pace, is a peaceful haven. It’s a place where you can truly unwind, with the beach never feeling overcrowded and the sea offering a serene escape. The tranquility of the island is truly calming.
One of the joys of my solo trip was the opportunity to meet so many amazing people on the island. It’s always a pleasure to connect with new faces and hear their stories.
Kim’s Folly pottery, shells and crystals shop is beautiful, owned by an adorable married couple.
My Airbnb host Lawrence was just excellent, and I was welcomed with afternoon tea and the best homemade scones and strawberry jam, accompanied by a glass of prosecco.
I loved the retro train journey across the Island by Hayling Light Rail. The vintage carriages, the scenic views, and the gentle rhythm of the train made it a truly memorable experience.
And of course, there is an ice cream which is an essential thing.
Fantastic weekend that destressed me and reminded me once again about uncomplicated happiness.
How is your weekend?
With Love As Always,
Yana De Lilac
