Sunday breakfast in Southampton
“Would you like to meet up for Sunday breakfast in the city?” a friend of mine asked.
I was a bit surprised, as we usually meet for lunch or dinner, but agreed.
Other than travelling, breakfast was always a meal to have at home, mainly functional and fast on weekdays, a bit more relaxed with beautiful china at the weekends, but not overly special in terms of culinary skills.
When I go out for dinner or lunch, I generally choose something I wouldn’t usually cook at home. Breakfast never had any mystery or surprises in my choices or how I cooked it.
I was so pleasantly impressed by this choice that it became my regular Sunday hobby.
Somehow, having breakfast in the restaurant or cafe feels decadent. It’s a much slower pace than my breakfasts at home; I am not interrupted, and it’s turned into a mindfulness exercise.
It is fascinating to watch people, too. Sunday morning crowds have a different vibe than lunches or dinners—also a very different social grouping. You see many tourists, families and surprisingly many solo visitors.
Southampton has so much to offer in the breakfast scene, and I am still exploring it.
So far, my favourites are the John Lewis top-level cafe, the Southampton Common park cafe, and Cafe Rosemary.
If you are visiting Southampton, or still building up the courage to try solo dining, explore the abundance of breakfast choices on offer in the City.
With Love as Always,
