Did you know that Portugal is home to more than 250 indigenous grape varieties, making it one of the countries with the highest diversity of native wine-producing in the world? Whether you’re new to Portuguese wines or already a fan, this wide variety means there’s always something new to discover for wine enthusiasts, adding depth to our appreciation of Portuguese wines.
Returning from Portugal just days before and inspired by the amazing Portuguese cuisine and wines, I was thrilled to be invited to the Portuguese Wine Tasting Evening at A La Russe in Windsor.
I lived in Windsor for many years and still cherish this place and its memories. A La Russe, just opposite Windsor Castle, remains my favourite dining spot, inviting a sense of community and belonging.
At the Portuguese tasting, we enjoyed beautiful wines paired with 4 exquisite courses. The garlic and sweet potato bread, grilled sirloin on a laurel skewer, Bolo de Bolancha cake, and manchego cheese with orange and onion relish delighted with their harmonious flavours.
We tasted 3 white wines, 2 red wines, and port from various regions of Portugal, accompanied by a very interesting narrative from Emily, the representative from Berkmann Wine Cellars https://www.berkmann.co.uk/.
Without a shadow of doubt, my favourite became Castello D’Alba Douro Reserva.
“So why have you decided on a Portuguese event?” I am talking to the charismatic Andre, a talented chef and owner of A La Russe.
“Despite producing real gems, Portuguese wines are very underrepresented and unknown in the UK, so we decided to showcase them to our customers with the help and passion of our Portuguese colleagues and friends. Events like this help us connect with Portuguese culture and build a vibrant community of wine lovers and enthusiasts”.
And what a success you made of this, Andre! A night to remember.
Obrigada!
Check out A La Russe if you are visiting Windsor https://alarusse.co.uk/
You will not be disappointed.
With Love as Always,
