Where are you buying your books?

“This is a very interesting book, but have you tried this one? I just finished it and felt so connected to the story.”
He tells me how he cried and how he was trying to understand the character through their actions. It was such passionate storytelling, with vivid descriptions and emotional depth, that I had to buy this book. And he was not selling it.

I am at Waterstones, Southampton. I love coming here not just for the books but also for the great vibe, recommendations on new books, and community events like author signings and book clubs. There is nothing better than having a coffee and a cake with a great book surrounded by thousands of other books and fellow book lovers.

Some would argue that buying books online is much cheaper. And for sure, I do that sometimes too, I buy books from charity shops and borrow books from the local library too. But I never have the same experience as when I buy at the store. It’s about the amazing local team-they read so much, recommend, and engage. These personal interactions make every purchase feel meaningful and worth it.

Let us all support our local book stores! Supporting these stores helps strengthen our community, keeps local culture alive, and creates a welcoming space for everyone.
It is Sunday, and I am heading to my favourite coffee shop at Waterstones with my book. And I may have more beautiful recommendations from the team.

With Love As Always,
Yana De Lilac

There’s something magical about book shops, especially the dusty cramped old independent places. Even though you couldn’t always sit and read you could browse for ages, dipping into each little world as you read the excerpts.

I’m the same with record shops – I can (and indeed used to) spend hours browsing, sometimes hearing a sample and reading the liner notes.
